Have you determined what you might like to work on? The closet thing we have to your requested overview is the book's working outline here: https://github.com/theopensourceway/guidebook/blob/master/OUTLINE.adoc It lists the general topics we're hoping the book can cover. And it also indicates the gaps or missing pieces we're not seeing—so you can point those out, too, and sign up to fill them in! At the moment, we plan to convert items on that working table of contents into a project board that visualizes the current status of all chapters-in-progress. More on that soon, we hope. When you've identified what you might like to work on, I can certainly help you get started. Just say the word.
